50 Squadron's Avro Lancaster I (#R5746) bomber aircraft, with an aircrew of seven took off from RAF Swinderby on an air operation over the seaside docks at Le Havre, France. R5746 failed to return to base and it was learned the Lancaster had crashed in France, taking the lives of the entire crew.

Son of Clement Arthur Lowe of Edmonton, and the late Lucie Gwendoline (née Parsons) Lowe [both parents born in England]; his brother, RCAF Flight Lieutenant Robert Henry LOWE, also served and fell during the Second World War.

Flight Sergeant John Manley Lowe is commemorated on Page 91 of Canada's Second World War Book of Remembrance.
