50 Squadron’s Avro Lancaster I (#R5746) bomber aircraft, with an aircrew of seven took off from RAF Swinderby on an air operation over the seaside docks at Le Havre, France. R5746 failed to return to base and it was learned the Lancaster had crashed in France, taking the lives of the entire crew.
