Entered Service from Michigan Status: Missing In Action
Honours and Awards: Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart

Bob was the son of Ralph & Cecile Phelps (nee Pulver). They had thirteen children and were farmers living in Rives Junction in Michigan, USA.
Bob left home on the 1st July 1942 and joined the United States Army Air Force. He served as a gunner on a B-24 Liberator in the 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy.
On a bombing mission in July 1943 his plane went down of the coast of Sicily and he was listed as missing.
On the day he left home Bob left behind his brand new 1942 Chevy, one of the last new cars to roll off the production line before the auto industry turned to wartime production. The Phelps family drove that car all through the war.

Six brothers joined up in the war but only three came home. Bob's brothers Ted and Don are buried side by side in Lorraine American Cemetery.
