Travers Rogers Obituary:

"On March 9th, 1889, the Lord called from his labors our beloved brother Travers Rogers, born May 27, 1804. Brother Rogers often spoke of his hopes in Christ, at times his face would be all aglow with joy, but he speaks no more to us of his hope for he has passed over the river of death and now his hopes are realized in his joys of paradise. In his death, our church has lost a faithful and devoted Christian. Good-bye, dear brother, until we meet again in the Kingdom of our Lord where brothers and sisters shall never part and our Sabbaths shall never end." Copied from records of Zion Church.

Zion church was first built by Rogers for a schoolhouse on his farm so his children would have some opportunity for an education. In " Rogers Meeting House" Liberty church at Tennga extended an arm and in 1843, according to their records it became Zion church . Some of the old-timers believed it was a church several years earlier than that.
