John H. Close VI was the son of John H. Close III and Cornelia Hollenbeck/Hollenback. He died at the age of 48 years, 7 months,and 23 days and is buried in the old section of Concord cemetery in John's township. The cemetery is located close to where his farm was located.
He married Mary Stark on the 19 August 1846 in Scott County, Indiana the daughter of David Stark and Mary Stark.
John, Mary and two of their eight children and Mary's sister, Hannah Stark who was making her home with them, came to Appanoose County in 1850 and settled on a 190 acres. When the township was named, three quarters of the men were named John, so they decided on the name of John's township.
