Staff Sergeant Michael Vetovich was able to reach the beach and begin running the 250 yards in the open to reach the cliff at the base of the village of Vierville sur Mer. As the leader of the C Company platoon, Captain Sidney Salomon wrote in his diary: "Vetovich was instantly killed by a sniper bullet, just as he reached the edge of the rocks.". Michael Vetovich was killed on June 6, 1944, along with 11 other men from Company B two men were declared Missing In Action and 16 Wounded In Combat and four were slightly wounded. Companies A, B and C then joined together and "together they barely made a full Ranger company" to attack the village of Vierville sur Mer.
