Clifton Preston Abbott, of Checotah, passed away on August 3, 2010 in Muskogee at the age of 98 years. He was born March 20, 1912, to William Wayne and Beulah Mae (Clark) Abbott in Checotah. Clifton was a farmer and rancher and a lifelong resident of Checotah, graduating from Checotah High School in 1931. Clifton attended the First Baptist Church where he had been a member since 1941 and had also served in the Odd Fellows Lodge for many years. Clifton received an award for Exceptional Leadership and Devoted Service to Checotah by the Conservation District for service to the community from 1962 – 1997. Clifton always enjoyed working land and cattle but his life's passion was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Clifton was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Ray and Leonard Abbott; daughter, Shirley Collins; brothers, Cecil, Clint, and Whitt Abbott; and a sister Zella O'Bar.
