Dies Wednesday
John H. Carlson, 77, resident of Severance township, died at the Union hospital in New Ulm at 6 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 12. Mr. Carlson had been a patient at the hospital since October 1. Immediate cause of death was given as pneumonia and a slight heart condition.
Mr. Carlson farmed in Severance for many years and since retiring from active farming pursuits had been engaged in the livestock hauling business
He was married to Bessie Holmquist May 26, 1900. Following their marriage the couple farmed in Severance. Thirteen children were born to the couple. Four of the children preceded him in death. Mrs. Carlson died May 17, 1938.
He is survived by six sons, Phillip and Delphin, Gibbon; Lloyd, New Ulm; Jewel, Mankato; Bert, Lafayette; Roger, Stewart; three daughters, Mrs. Phillip (Rose) Peterson, Steger, Ill.; Mrs. Edgar (Dora) Hoppenstedt, Minneapolis and Mrs. Vincent (Jeanette) Peterson, Pierce. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Ruth Swanson of Minneapolis, and two brothers, James Carlson of Minneapolis and Martin Carlson of Gibbon.
Funeral services will be held from Clear Lake Baptist Church on Saturday, October 15, at 2:00 p.m. The body will be in state at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services on Saturday. Private funeral services for the family will be held at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Chapel at 8 p.m. Friday.
