JOSHUA VOGEL PASSES AWAY
Was One of the Oldest Residents of West Newton
Joshua Vogel, aged nearly 90 years, the father of Mrs. Anna M Werner of Duquesne and Mrs A. N. Myers of McKeesport died yesterday afternoon at his home in West Newton. Death was due to a general break down of the system and ailments due to old age. Until three weeks ago Mr. Vogel enjoyed the best of health and was quite active for one of his years.
The deceased was born in Germany. Forty Seven years ago he came to America and located in West Newton, where he spent the remainder of his life. During his residence in West Newton he was in the employ of only two men and followed the occupation of a paper maker, having been a foreman in the paper mill at that place. On his trip to America he had a very stormy voyage in a sailboat and was 92 days in crossing the briny deep, sighting land four times before landing. A couple of years later, Mr. Vogel sent for his family who joined him in this country. He never visited his old home.
Mr. Vogel was the oldest resident of the town of West Newton, with possibly one exception and the father of a large family of children. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Vogel, and eight children as follows: Mrs Anna M. Werner, South Fourth Street, Duquesne, Mrs. A.N. Myers, Jenny Lind Street, McKeesport, Mrs. Kate Amsler, Mrs. Jacob Weinman, Gottlieb Vogele and Jacob Vogel of Wilkinsburg, Mrs. Mary Frye of Sutersville and Joseph and Joshua Vogel Jr. of West Newton. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
