Gottlieb Vogele of 1104 Penn Avenue, Wilkinsburg passed away on Tuesday, March 10, at 10:50 A.M.
Mr. Vogele was born in Germany on January 10, 1849. In 1856 together with his parents, brothers and sisters, he came to the United States. They settled at West Newton where Mr. Vogele spent his youth and received his education and secured his first working experience. In 1876 he moved to Wilkinsburg where he married Miss Hannah McKiernan and settled on the spot where they have resided continuously until his death.
During his 55 years of residence in Wilkinsburg he was chiefly engaged in the coal business until retiring from active business responsibility in 1916. He was always deeply interested in fraternal societies and took and active part in lodge work until he became physically unable to continue. A period of 55 years of continuous membership among three of Wilkinsburg's largest fraternal organizations gave Mr. Vogele an opportunity to do the type of social work he most enjoyed; Wilkinsburg Lodge No. 676, I.O.O.F., Wilkinsburg Encampment and Wilkinsburg Castle No. 140, A.O.K. of M.C. valued his services and loyal support while acting in various lodge office appointments.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Hannah Vogele and four children, Mrs. Jane Palmer, Mrs. Edith Angerer, Mrs. Elsie Bethell, all of Wilkinsburg and Joshua Vogele of Ligonier, Pa., as well as eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from his home at 2:30 Saturday afternoon.
