Mrs. Hannah J. Vogele, 83, who lived for 60 years in a "house by the side of the road" - the now combined William Penn and Lincoln Highways - died yesterday afternoon in that house.
The house stands at the corner of Penn and Swissvale Aves., Wilkinsburg. The place is now a busy intersection at the eastern edge of Wilkinsburg's business district, but when Mrs. Vogele took up residence there it was just "the bottom of the hill" on the road that led into Wilkinsburg from the east.
Mrs. Vogele's husband, Gottlieb, died eight years ago. Since that time she has lived alone in the family homestead.
She was a life-long resident of wilkinsburg; a member of the Trinity Reformed Church, and of Naomi Lodge and Orient Chapter No. 35 of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are three daughters and one son: Mrs. Jane A. Palmer, Mrs. Edith V. Angerer and Mrs. Elsie Bethell, all of Wilkinsburg, and Joshua Vogele of Ligonier.
Funeral services will be conducted at the family residence at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
