Newton I Jones was born January 31, 1881, in Wayne County, Iowa. He moved to Taylor County at an early age and had spent his entire life in the New Market vicinity.
He was united in marriage March 5, 1902, to Carrie E. Cade. To this union were born four children.
He was united with the Christian Church of New Market Jan. 7, 1929. He led a very active life until he was stricken by a cerebral hemorrhage on his 75th birthday, from which he never regained consciousness. He departed this life Feb. 6. 1956, at the age of 75 years and six days.
H leaves to mourn their loss his faithful and devoted wife, two daughters, Ola Eubank of Kansas City, Mo., and Velma McKay of Clarinda, one son, Don H Jones of Shenandoah, Ia; a granddaughter Sonja Marlene Jones; three brothers, Bert of Peoria, Il., Ray of Ia., four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Knapp of Allerton, Ia., Mrs. Rhoda O'Dell of Chicago, Mrs. Clara Baker of Gravity, Mrs. Lola Luellen of Troy, Kansas, besides other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, one sister and one son Garve Jones.
The funeral services were held with Rev. G. R. McGaghy was in charge. Music was by Mary Brummett and Aletha Hutchings. Organist was Althea Hutchings. Flower bearers were Wyleen Miller, Julia Glasgow, Nora Morris and Eva Journey. Casket bearers who carried him to his final resting place in the Old Memory Cemetery were Ben Pullan, Carl Wells, George Crawford, Allie Pullan, Johnnie Combs and Elmo Peterman.
