CORA ELMA SLATER
Cora Elma Slater, eldest daughter of Andrew and Emma Duryea, was born in Richardson County, Nebraska, January 29, 1879, and passed away at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital December 12, 1953 after four days illness from a heart attack at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 13 days.
As a small child she traveled in a covered wagon with her parents to Illinois. When a young lady, she returned to Nebraska. On May 23, 1903 she was united in marriage to George William Slater and to this union three sons and two daughters were born.
Cora spent most of her life on the farm, both before and after her marriage, until 1949 when she moved to Pawnee City, where she and her daughter Velma, made their home until the time of her death.
She was baptized in early life in the Free Methodist Church in Williams County, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister and one brother.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children: Raymond and Virgil of Pawnee City, Lee of Auburn, Nebr., Mrs. Reuben Callam of Pawnee City and Velma at home; two brothers, John and Charlie Duryea of Thompsonville, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Miller of Omaha, Mrs. Maggie Harlow and Mrs. Pearl Freeman of Table Rock; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
