Lina was born in Barby, Germany; daughter of Gottfried Conrad Blankenstein and Dorothea Herbst. Her full name was Carolina Johanna Elisabeth Blankenstein. Lina Blankenstein was baptized May 15, 1859, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Barby, Germany.
Lina came to the U.S. with her parents in 1870 and the family moved to Texas in 1878. Lina first married C. R. Schmaltz Dec. 9, 1879 in Waco. They lived in Cleburne. Mr. Schmaltz died in 1896 and Lina moved to Waco with her children. Lina's second marriage was to J. H. Schroeder on July 18, 1900. Mr. Schroeder died in 1925. Lina was originally buried January 25, 1941, in Cleburne, Tx. Lina's daughter, Gertrude Schmaltz, had the remains of Lina and her two husbands moved to Oakwood Cemetery in Waco in the 1950's.

OBITUARY FROM THE WACO TRIBUNE: Mrs. Lina Schroeder
Funeral services for Mrs. Lina Schroeder, 81, who died at her home, 1900 Herring avenue, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday after a long illness, were held at Clark's drawing room at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. C. Wolff officiating, burial in Cleburne cemetery. Pallbearers were William Schmaltz, Oscar Schmaltz, Lynn Harris, Will Silaff, C. W. Kestler, and Richard Hoeldtke.
