Marian D. Fennig, Galesburg Chapel
, 86, formerly of Galesburg, Ill. died Friday, July 30, 2010 at Highview in the Woodlands Nursing Home, Rockton, Ill.
She was born October 25, 1923 in Henry County, Ohio to Arnold R. and Agnes J. Schroeder Backhaus. She married Alvin D. Fennig August 10, 1946 in Chattanooga, Ohio. He preceded her in death September 3, 1988.
Surviving is a son Robert (and Nancy) Fennig of Galesburg, three daughters Cheral (and Ed) Sadler of Elkhorn, Wisc., Carol (and John) Sauter of South Beloit, Ill. and Kathryn (and Jerry) Stripe of Zephyr Hills, Fla., a brother Charles Backhaus, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a grandson.
Marian was a bookkeeper for the Knox County Treasurer's office for 18 years and was the County Treasurer for a year and a half. She retired January 1, 1985. She graduated from Pleasant Mills High School in Pleasant Mills, Ind. Marian was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Galesburg. She was a dedicated servant of the church and people in need in the community. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, card playing and gardening.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church.
