Charles H. Backhaus, 95 years old of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Genacross Lutheran Services - Napoleon Campus.

He was born on Friday, August 26, 1921 in Defiance County, Ohio the son of the late Arnold R. Backhaus and the late Agnes J. (Schroeder) Backhaus.

Charles was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, Ohio. Charles was a charter member of the Pleasant Mills, Indiana Lions Club and a longtime member of the National Ayrshire Association.

He was a lifelong dairy farmer with his brother, Lester. They were well respected in the dairy business in Indiana where they farmed, and also throughout the Midwest. Charles assisted in the judging of dairy cattle at many fairs.

Surviving are his niece, Cheral (Ed) Sadler of Elkhorn, WI; niece, Carol (John) Sauter of IL; niece, Kathryn (Jerry) Stripe of FL; nephew, Robert (Nancy) Fennig of IL; and several great-nieces & nephews.

Preceding Charles in death were a brother, Lester A. Backhaus and a sister, Marian D. Fennig.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio with Rev Mindy Elliott officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to Lutheran Social Services or St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners, Ohio.
