Patrick Henry "Pad" Walker was born in Haywood County, Tennessee. Around age 16, his parents and all seven children moved to Texas and settled in Guadalupe County, in the Prairie Lea area.

On 11 Jul 1861 Pad Walker, along with his brother, William Byron, enlisted in Co. A of 4th TX Inf Hood's Brigade. Pad was hospitalized for a gunshot wound to his head in Sept 1862 at Battle of Sharpsburg (Antietem). He served until the surrender 12 Apr 1865. Although William Byron returned to Texas to live, Pad went to Madison County, Tennessee and married Mary Elizabeth Chapman.

Pad and Mary Elizabeth purchased land three miles west of Denmark in Madison County. Four children were raised here. Mary Elizabeth died 23 Jan 1881 and is buried in the Chapman Family Cemetery in Madison County.

Pad Walker and the four children left Tennessee and went to Texas to join the rest of the Walker family already there, arriving in Prairie Lea in March 1881.

Here he met Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Swann, the widow of Thomas Greenwood, who was living at Greenwood Farm in Caldwell County with her young son, Thomas Calhoun, and her late husband's parents. Pad Walker and Lizzie Greenwood married 23 May 1883. In 1885 they purchased four lots in Prairie Lea, on the east side of the San Marcos River. They purchased the land from Pad's brother, William Byron, who moved to nearby Luling, Texas to help establish Walker Brother's Store.

Unfortunately, he became ill with galloping consumption (TB) and died 20 Jul 1888. The land in Prairie Lea was sold and Lizzie Walker moved to Luling and became sole caregiver to Pad Walker's granddaughter, Lillian Elizabeth Stair, following Lucy Walker Stair's death.

Although his parents, Philip and Sarah Walker, died in Guadalupe County and Caldwell County, no gravesite of them has been found in either county.
