The deceased was born in Vermont, U.S.A., in 1847, later going with his parents to Illinois, where the family lived for several years, the next moved being to Buchan County, Iowa. Mr. Strong enlisted for Civil War service, an active member of his regiment for two years. Still a young man, he homesteaded in Colfax County, Nebraska, where he farmed and engaged in his teaching profession. After his marriage to Minnie E. Simmons of Iowa in 1874, the residence was a farm-home in Nebraska until 1894, when the family emigrated to Alberta and took up homestead in the Berrydale district, later moving to Olds.
There were seven children in the family, Herbert, the eldest son, passed away in 1929. Besides his widow, four daughters and two sons survive his death, Mrs. Blanche Head Victoria, B.C.; Mrs. Olive Fletcher, Calgary; Mrs. Grace Walrod, Rockyford; Mrs. Merle Peck, Cochrane; Walter of Anacortes, Wash., and Floyd of Sibbald, Alberta.
