LEE CHESHIRE DIES, WAS LANE PIONEER
One of Lane County's pioneer residents, Lee L. Cheshire, of Cheshire, died at his home Friday evening at the age of 86. He was born June 24, 1867, near the present site of Noti, the eleventh child of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Cheshire, for whom the present community of Cheshire was named. His parents, with their two oldest children, came to Oregon in a wagon train from St. Joseph, Mo., in 1852, and first settled in Oak Hill -- now part of the Danebo district. At the age of eight he moved with his family to Lower Fern Ridge, close to where the Fern Ridge Dam now stands. Here he completed all but the last two years of schooling. For his final two years, he attended classes in Eugene where the city hall now is located. He married Eska Bailey, Nov. 2, 1905, and moved to Cheshire where he lived the rest of his life. He was a charter member of the Franklin Grange and a member of the Junction City Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow; six sons, Lynn, Dale, and Neil, of Cheshire; Claire, of Creswell; Leslie, of Crow, and Robert, of Jasper; a daughter, Mrs. Lois Akerson, of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Mary Christine Mahon, of Eugene; 22 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, at 2 p.m. at the Junction City Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joyce Stanley Kendall officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery. The Miller-Sherman-Murphy Funeral Home at Junction City is in charge of funeral arrangements.
