Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Alston, 1323 24th Street, Gulfport, announce the birth of a son, Walter Glynn, January 22.

GULFPORTIAN ON NAMES THE SAME
Walter Alston, 19 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Alston, 1202 Fournier Ave., Gulfport, appeared on the nationwide television program. "The Name's the Same," in New York city Friday night. Young Alston has the same name as the manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers. His mother submitted his name in the spring and the show notified the family this week that he had been selected to appear on the program which is viewed on the Coast on Saturday night a week following the original telecast. Walter, a former carrier for The Daily Herald, has been employed in the circulation department in the Gulfport office for the past year. He left for New York Thursday at 10:30 by National Airlines and is expected to arrive back on the Coast by plane Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Also scheduled to appear on the same program was a person with the name, Casey Stengel, manager for the Yankees. The two teams Dodgers and Yankees, will meet for the World Series title.

Walter G. "Lukey" Alston, age 72, of Gulfport, passed away on May 21, 2009, in Gulfport. Mr. Alston was a member of First Baptist Church of Lyman. He was also a member of the Northwood Hills Homeowners Association, and was the co-owner and operator, Alston Amusement, Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence "Orphie" Alston and Della Alston; and his brothers, Billy Clarence Alston and Leslie O. Alston. He is survived by his wife, Vera Alston of Gulfport; two children, Mike Alston and his wife, Michel, of Gatesville, TX and Candi Davidson and her husband, Luke, of Saucier; three grandchildren, Hannah Davidson, Shaina Weber, and Keaton Alston; and two brothers, Bobby Alston and his wife, Patricia, and Arnold "Dude" Alston and his wife, Marilyn, all of Gulfport. The visitation will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Gulfport.
