Late Thursday afternoon Mr. Abram Brewer Bonta, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Mercer County, passed away at his residence "Highland Home," after an illness of some weeks. He was eighty-three years of age and was counted among the most successful and wealthy men of this place. His funeral took place Saturday morning at the home, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Lon Robinson, of the Methodist Church, assisted by Dr. J. G. Hunter, of the First Presbyterian Church, and the remains were brought to town and interred in Spring Hill cemetery. He had been a member of the Methodist Church for sixty years. Mr. Bonta owned the farm that his grandfather and father owned before him, and all his long life was spent on the one place. For many years he was president of the First National Bank, and has always occupied a place of prominence among men of affairs in the community. He was married to Miss Elizabeth McDonald, also of this County, who with five children, still survives him. The children are Mr. Walter G. Bonta, of San Francisco; Dr. Maurice B. Bonta, of Cleveland, O.; Mr. Leroy Bonta, of St. Louis; Mrs. Frank VanDeering, of Lexington and Miss Lena M. Bonta, of this place.
