Doris Atkinson Springer, 68, of 222 West Washington St., Hartford, died at 2:41 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Ohio County Hospital. She was born on Sept. 3, 1941, in White Plains to the late Edgar Atkinson and Cordie Gary Atkinson. She worked at Dillard's Department Store in Vicksburg, Miss., and was a member of Hartford Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Atkinson; and two brothers, Denby (Buck) Atkinson and William Howard (Sparkle) Atkinson. Survivors include her husband, Mr. Wallie Eugene Springer of Hartford; a son, Paul Allen Springer and wife Beverly Jean of Pace, Fla.; three daughters, Deborah Springer Smith and husband Danny Louis of Paducah, Martha Sue Springer Todd and husband James Curtis of Yorkville, Tenn., and Sarah Lee Springer Canaday and husband William Lynn of Enville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Kayla Springer, Laura Smith, Ashley Springer, Andy Smith, Lydia Todd, Christopher Canaday, Caleb Todd and Charlotte Canaday; a brother, James Lloyd Atkinson and wife, Hazel, of Louisville; two sisters, Milbra Long of Cleburne, Texas, and Nancy Miller and her husband, Charlie, of Morganfield. Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hartford Church of Christ, with Mr. Gary Puryear officiating. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial were in Shady Grove Baptist Church in Poole.
