Mary Y. Stokes was born in Mantua, Utah, February 17, 1917 to Isaac Albert and Mary Elzada Nelson Young. She passed away May 17, 2005, surrounded by her daughters and other family members at the age of 88. She was the loving Mother of 3 daughters, grandmother of 16, great-grandmother of 43 and great-great-grandmother of 3.
Mary loved gardening (especially roses), reading and enjoying good music. She had a beautiful soprano voice and played the piano and organ. She cherished the scriptures and amazed her family and friends with her knowledge of the gospel.
She was an active member of the Harrisville 1st Ward and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Heber Wallace Stokes, Jr., her parents and sisters Florence, Dorothy, and Janet.
She is survived by brothers Dean, J. Lowell, Moylen, and Grant Young and daughters Sharon (Keith H.) Billings, Pat Larsen and Nancy (Dean A.) Prusse.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life to honor her on Friday, May 20 at the Harrisville LDS Church at the corner of Hwy 89 and West Harrisville Road, starting at 6 p.m. A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 21 at the Brigham City Cemetery at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
