Janet Stott was married Oct. 15, 1884 at St. Barnabas, Stottville to William West Durant (1850-1934). The New Yorker was the son of Dr. Thomas C. Durant, of the Union Pacific Railroad. William is widely credited with opening up the Adirondacks for summer camps particularly in Township 40 around Raquette Lake. He was also a friend and business associate of Janet's father, Francis H. With Durant's encouragement, Francis H. purchased Bluff Point on Racquette Lake, where, beginning about 1876, he constructed Camp Stott. For close to thirty years, the family returned to Bluff point every summer.

The couple had three children, Lawrence T. (1885-1941), Heloise T. (Leila) (1887-1968), and Basil Napier (1889-1959), but in 1898 Janet Lathrop and William West were divorced. In the latter part of her life, Janet lived in New York City, although it is believed that she also lived in her grandfather Lathrop's Stockport house (pictured) part of the time.
