Debra "Deb" Jane Cover, 57, of Norfolk died of cancer Monday, July 12, 2010, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk. Deb was born Jan. 7, 1953, in Minden to Rieny and Grace (Jorgensen) Olsen.

On May 24, 1975, she married Jerry Cover in Minden.

Survivors are: her husband of 35 years; sons, Chris Cover and his wife, Mirinda, and Matthew Cover, all of Omaha, and Brett Cover and his wife, Sara, of Lincoln; grandchildren, Cohen, Cambry and the twins, Cade and Cole; sisters, Donna Schwenka and her husband, Dick, and Bev Miller, all of Minden, Marcia Marsh and her husband, Dean, of San Marcos, Calif., Janice Horan and her husband, John, of Nebraska City and Cindy Flavell of Ennis, Mont.; nieces; nephews and a host of friends and relatives.

She was raised in Minden and graduated from high school in 1971. In 1975, she graduated from Kearney State College, where she majored in speech pathology and special education. She later earned her master's degree from Doane College.

She began her career working for Educational Service Unit 9 of Hastings. Two years later, she worked in the Axtell School District. After her family moved to Norfolk in 1982, Deb worked for Educational Service Unit 8 of Neligh for 13 years before working for Norfolk Public Schools.

She had completed 15 years of service to Norfolk Public Schools. Deb enjoyed reading and doing scrapbooking. She really enjoyed her Bible study class with her special friends. She liked to cook, especially trying the different recipes from the "Olsen Family Cook Book." Her cheesy potatoes and Butterfinger crunch desserts were her family favorites.

She had a passion for her teaching throughout her career. She dearly loved all of her students. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi local chapter Alpha Nu Sorority, the Nebraska Teachers Association, the Nebraska Speech Language and Hearing Association and the Norfolk City Education Association.

Deb's greatest love was for her family. She faithfully attended the activities of her sons and her husband. She was especially creative when putting together holiday activities for her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
