William Byron Walker was born in Haywood County, Tennessee. He moved with his family to Texas in 1854-1855 and settled in Guadalupe County in the Prairie Lea area.

In July 1861 he enlisted in Co. A, 4th Texas Inf Hood's Brigade. He enlisted along with his brother, Patrick Henry Walker, and they served together until the surrender in April 1865. He was admitted to hospitals in Virginia on four occasions for illness during the four years.

William Byron returned to Texas after the war and married Mary Ophelia Mooney. They lived in Prairie Lea until 1885. He sold some land (4 lots) to his brother Patrick Henry, and moved to Luling to join his other brothers, James Knox and Wlliam Philip in the Walker Bros. Store business.

He lived in Luling until his death at the young age of 56.
