George first married Hannah Electa Gardner 22 March 1855; they had one son & two daughters before Hannah's death April 1861 at Weber County, Utah.

He married 2 June 1861 (2) Margaret Townsend Bradbury. They had 14 children over the next 22 years. Their last child was two at his mother's death and four when George Sterling died.
