Died: At Perrysburg, on the 6th inst, of chronic diarrhea, Gabriel E Guyer, Esq, Sheriff of Wood County, Ohio, aged 48 years, 9 months and 18 days.

The remains will be taken to Gilead today for interment.

In Memoriam.

Mr Guyer was born in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, May 25 1817. About thirty years since, he removed with his parents to this county in which he continued to reside until he passed into that better land.

In the earlier part of his active life he followed mechanical pursuits; health failing, he then entered on the avocation of farming. In each sphere of life he discharged his duty with fidelity and diligence, and by his courteous and friendly disposition won the respect and confidence of all with whom he associated.

In 1861, the Democrats presented him as their candidate for Sheriff, and although that party was then in a minority of some three or four hundred, yet such confidence had the citizens of this county in his integrity of character, that they reversed the ordinary majority and elected him to the office. In 1863, at the close of his first term of office, the people again honored him by an election for the second term. During that term he was brutally attacked and injured in the jail by one of the prisoners who sought to escape, from the consequences of which he was at that time brought near the grave, and there is no doubt but that the injuries then received, led to his final dissolution.

After a long period of agonizing suffering, our friend and brother has passed away. He has tasted the bitterness of death, but he now realizes the blessed realities of immortal life. He died in the conscious enjoyment of true religion.

In the associations of private life, his sincerity of heart and his earnest friendship attached the sympathy of all within its range.

As a public officer he discharged the duties devolving on him with fidelity. As a citizen, he ever rendered a patriotic support to the Government. As a Christian, his profession was characterized by a consistent walk and a vigorous faith in the merit of his Redeemer. His domestic relations were ever tenderly affectionate. In every walk of life he has obtained the respect and esteem of his associates, and it will be said of him by them, "The memory of the just is blessed."
