The Canton Telephone (4 Oct 1888) "We are again called in to perform the sad duty of chronicling the demise of one of our good citizens and nicest young men--Mr. Wm. Allen, son of E.N. Allen living several miles from town. He died Monday evening of Typho-Malarial fever. He was a brother to Henry Allen who is sick at the Phoenix hotel with the same disease. The Telephone extends its deepest sympathy to the heart-broken family and relatives."
The Canton Telephone (12 Oct 1888) Under the section title "Holly Springs Siftings"--"A shadow of gloom has been east over this community by the death of W.A. Allen, which occurred on the 7th inst. Willie was a young man just grown into manhood, and by his exemplary walk bad won the love and esteem of all who knew him. He leaves a large circle of relatives and a host of friends to mourn his death."

Funeral card--"In Loving Remembrance of William Allen, Died Oct. 1, 1888"

A tombstone was placed on 3/30/2015. The location is next to his father (the location had been marked by a rock and cross).
