The Anderson family was a charter family of the St. Paul Lutheran congregation of Osceola, organized in 1903, so Selma was a member for 77 years. She was a member of the second confirmation class, September 9,1905 and remained an active, faithful member as long as her health allowed.
Selma married Andrew E. Peterson of the Stromsburg community on March 20,1912. They farmed there until their retirement to Osceola in 1951. They were the parents of four children, all surviving her and living in the area. Mr. Peterson passed away in 1968. Selma remained in her own home until 1974 and then lived at nursing homes the remaining seven years of her life. She passed away at Annie Jeffrey Hospital June 18, 1981 at the age of 90 years, six months.
Selma's passing is mourned by her daughter, Evelynne Oberg, and three sons and their wives, Kenneth and Opal, Wesley and Lois, Vernon and Mary. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Gerdes: two brothers, John and Wilmer Anderson; one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Her parents, a son-in-law and eight brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Jun 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pastor Paul Reimer officiated. The organist Louise Wheeler and vocalist. Julie Peterson, Susan Kufeldt, Karen Bugbee, Carita Willits, Barbara Cotter, Marilyn Headlee and Jane Peterson, were granddaughters. Grandsons Douglass Peterson, Loren Peterson, Keith Peterson, Steve Peterson, Bruce Bugbee and Eugene Cotter served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Osceola cemetery.
