Funeral services for Anton Anderson were held Friday afternoon, February 7th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Rev Paul Melin, pastor of the church, conducted the service, He was born to his last resting place in the Osceola Cemetery by his six surviving sons.
Anton Anderson was born December 10th, 1855 at Lindberg, Halland, Sweden, and came to America in 1880. He lived for two years at Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania, then moved to Saunders County, near Wahoo, Nebraska, where he resided until 1897. He then moved to Polk County and settled on a farm three miles east of Osceola. Here he continued to farm until the fall of 1927 when he moved to the town residence in Osceola. Here he passed to his final reward at 11:40pm Tuesday night, February 4th at the age of 80 years, one month and 25 days.
Mr. Anderson was twice married. His first marriage was to Miss Emily Wallin in March 1882. Three children blessed this union, namely, C. Albin Anderson and Mrs. Emma Nyquist of Osceola, and one child who died in early infancy. Mrs. Anderson passed away in March 1886, leaving the father and two small children to mourn her departure. Mr. Anderson often told how he carried one of the children on his lap and one on his back. while he was cultivating corn after his first wife died.
In October 1887 he was remarried to Miss Anna Swanson. Nine children were born to this union, one of whom passed away in infancy. Mrs. Anderson passed away in January, 1931, almost exactly five years before her husband.
The children left to mourn the departure of their father are: C. Albin Anderson, Mrs. Emma Nyquist, Mrs. Hilma, Herman of Osceola, Mrs Selma Peterson and Herman Anderson of Stromsburg, Oscar Anderson, Mrs. Mary Gerdes, Albert Anderson and John Anderson of Osceola, and Wilmer Anderson of Polk. Thirteen grandchildren are also left to mourn, and one brother, Bengt Anderson of Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania.
