William James McNinch was born 11 May 1841 near Lima, Livingston County, New York. He was the son of Joseph McNinch and Rhoda Denison McNinch. He married Sarah Jane Jakeway on 10 Feb 1862. Sarah's parents are unknown, but she was born on 16 Jun 1844 near Lima, New York. William served in the Civil War being a member of Company K, 1st New York Regiment of Mounted Rifleman, 18th Army Corps. William and Sarah moved to Coldwater, Michigan, after the war and then to Sublette, Illinois, around 1871. William's brothers David, Robert and George also lived in this area. Sarah's brother, Elrod lived near Neponset, Illinois. Williams' father and his brothers Christopher and Calvin moved to Wisconsin. it is unknown where his sisters Minerva, Elizabeth and Mary McNinch moved to or whom they married. William and Sarah McNinch had 12 children…
