Deaths in the New River and Greenbrier Valleys
Mrs Mary Elizabeth Wickline, wife of D S Wickline (and sister of the late Geo Baker,) expired very suddenly and unexpectedly at her home at Sweet Springs, Monroe county, on Monday evening, Feb 24, 1913, at 6 o'clock. While sitting in her chair at 11 o'clock that morning she was stricken with paralysis and never regained consciousness. Mrs Wickline was a daughter of the late John and Nancy Baker and was born near Sweet Springs in April, 1836. She married Mr Wickline Feb 10, 1858 and had been a faithful and loving wife. When quite young she joined the M E Church and lived and died a devoted Christian. Her long life has been full of usefulness and her neighbors and friends speak in her praise. Mrs Wickline is survived by her husband, four sons - Messrs M N, of Summers county, M C of Sweet Chalybeate Springs, Va, Dr Wm of Washington city and David Wickline, of Lynchburg, Va - and one daughter, Mrs Bettie Tucker of Richmond, Va. She leaves also four brothers, Messrs Wm A, C O and J H Baker of Sweet Springs, and David A Baker of Abingdon, Ill, and two sisters, Mrs F L Beckner and Mrs John E Wickline, Jr, of Sweet Springs, this county. Her remains were laid to repose in the graveyard at Shiloh church on Feb 26, Rev Mr Chapman conducting the funeral services. Mr and Mrs Wickline formerly resided in this county in Forest Hill district.
