Son of Jacob Kisling and Catharine Sheffer, William is the graveyard guardian, a designation given to the first person buried at a cemetery. William had went to Mechanicsburg on horseback and his horse returned home without him. His father Jacob traced his ride and found William dead on the trail of a broken neck. Thus the Keesling Cemetery was started on the land of William's parents. William's stone is the only sandstone monument in the cemetery.
