Thomas was the son of John and Mary Baxter. He married Hannah Hanby on Nov 28 1840 in England. They were the parents of 9 children: Isabella (1841), Christina (1843), George H (1845-1923), John Arthur (1847), James Edward (1850-1930 KA), Thomas Jackson (1851-1923), Charles Woolfoot (1854), Amelia (1856-1942 CA, Charles A Briggs), and Emily (1862-1927, Charles Goldsmith). and a daughter in England.

The Sac Sun - Thursday , April 2nd, 1903 - Thomas Baxter died last Saturday evening March 28, 1903, shortly after 9 at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs C.A. Briggs in Sac City.

He had been failing somewhat for several months from diabetes, but became seriously ill almost 3 weeks prior to his decease. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at the Briggs home. The interment took place in Oakland cemetery.

Mr Baxter was born near Leeds, Yorkshire, England Sept 3, 1918. He married Nov 28 1840 to Miss Hannah Hanby. To them were born 9 children, of whom 6 are still living.

In 1867 Mr Baxter came to America and the following year his wife and 6 of the children came over. They settled in DuPage County, IL and resided there until 1882 when they came to Iowa and made their home on a farm in Cedar township, Sac county for about 12 years.

Almost 9 years ago Mr and Mrs Baxter moved to Sac City. Four years ago last month Mrs Baxter died, the couple having lived together in happy companionship for 58 years. Since the death of his wife Mr Baxter has resided with his daughters, Mrs C.A. Briggs and Mrs C.D. Goldsmith in this city.

Of the other children: George H and Thomas J reside in Cedar township, Sac county; James E lives in Kansas; and one daughter resides in England.
