Emily was the daughter of Thomas Baxter (1820 Eng) and Hannah Hanby (1853 Eng). She married Charles Goldsmith on Dec 25, 1883. They were the parents of Karl.

Nov 1927 - Sac Sun - Mrs. Emily Goldsmith, wife of Judge Chas. D. Goldsmith, died at half past two o'clock on Friday morning, October 28, 1927, after illnesses of seven weeks in the course of which trouble with the heart developed.

The funeral was held at the residence at Audubon and Ninth Streets on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. The Rev. Wilford E. Mann, director of St. Paul's Church at Council Bluffs, conducted the Episcopal burial service. Mrs. B.W. Newton sang "Abide With Me" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The pallbearers were L.A. Wine, J.B. Tourgee, Dr. J.H. Hart, J.R, Hawbecker and H.F. Huser. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery.

Mrs. Goldsmith, whose maiden name was Emily Baxter, was born in Leeds, England, September 4, 1862. When she was six years of age she came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Baxter, who made their home in Wheaton, Illinois. She attended the West Chicago high school, graduating in 1881. The same year she came to Sac City, Iowa and made her home with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Briggs. She taught in the Rowe rural school west of Sac City during the next school year and then taught in the Sac City schools until her marriage to Chas. D. Goldsmith on Christmas day of 1883. Since then for almost 44 years her home has been in the house where she died.

To Mrs. Goldsmith only one child was born, namely, Karl Goldsmith, now a lawyer at Pierre, South Dakota. But when Mrs. Goldsmith came into the home, she gave a mother's loving care to Delmont Goldsmith, then a lad of nine years.

Soon after her marriage Mrs. Goldsmith affiliated with the Holy Trinity Epicopal Church and has been one of its dependable workers in the Sunday School and the Guild. She also was a member of Chater BI of the P.E.O. Society and was a member of the pioneer History Club and of the Fortnightly Club, the P.E.O. chapter members were present at the funeral in a body.

In addition to her husband and sons, Mrs. Goldsmith, herself the youngest of nine children, leaves her sister, Mrs. C.A. Briggs, who was with her throughout her illness, and her brother, James E. Baxter of Russell, KS, who came a week before his sister's death and was present at the funeral.

A niece of Mrs. Goldsmith's, Mrs. F.R. Strain of Fort Pierre, South Dakota, formerly Millie Baxter, was reared in the Goldsmith home where she spent about fifteen years. Mrs. Strain also was present at the funeral.

Besides the sorrowing household, the entire community is bereft in the loss of a woman so useful and kindly.
