James C. (Jack) Bowman, 82, of Hillsville, Va., passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Twin County Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Pennsylvania on November 9, 1927, he was the son of the late Vernon V. and Verna Webb Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Fredrick B. Bowman and brother, Robert Allen Bowman. Mr. Bowman is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Inez Cloud Bowman of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. and Amy Bowman, of Abingdon and Timothy J. and Tami Bowman, of Hillsville; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Jason Semones, of Hillsville; sisters, Margaret Brady, of Atlanta, Ga., Benice Strickland, of Hillsville and Ethel Martin, of Laurel Fork; grandchildren, Katherine C. Scott, Serena B. Holt, Joseph S. Bowman, Sarah I. Bowman, and Madison K. Semones; and great-granddaughter, Jaylyn R. Holt. Mr. Bowman served as a deacon at Rome Baptist Church. Jack was a talented builder and craftsman. "Poppy Jack" will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, and friend to everyone. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 5, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Rome Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry McMillian and the Rev. Ed Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Mr. Bowman will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. The family will receive friends at VaughanGuynn-McGrady Chapel on Sunday, July 4, 2010, from 1 until 3 p.m. A guestbook is available online by visiting www.vaughanguynnandmcgrady.com.
