Mary Estelle was the only daughter of Eli Bradley and Mary Emma Apperson.
She received her education in the Dallas schools, then became secretary to a prominent physician who owned and operated an Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital. When he retired, Mary bought the facility and operated a successful hospital. She built a new, very modern hospital in a new location, which her younger son managed. It was named the Mary Shiels Hospital. She married James Henry Shiels on June 28, 1928.
Mary and Henry were the parents of two sons, James Henry Shiels Jr. and Rob Shiels.

Her grandchildren are, Sally, Susie, James Henry Shiels III
Her brother's are E. B. Robbins, Jr., of Corpus Christi, Texas
