John Taylor, Son of King Taylor and Sarah Barrett Taylor, was born and baptized in Buckinghamshire, England. John and his parents immigrated from England aboard the their ship the “Brig Swan” leaving Liverpool in 1831 and arrived in Pennsylvania, USA. By 1850, John was living in Middletown, Ohio and sharing the home of a Blacksmith, Abraham Cramer. He married first wife, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Van Tuyl in 1853 and together they had twins. The surviving twin was Thomas Van Tuyl Taylor. However, in 1860, Elizabeth died. John and son Thomas moved in with his in-laws prior to his Civil War service. John was a Private in Co G of 167th Ohio Infantry Union Army between 02 May 1864 and 08 Sep 1864. When John returned from the war, he wed 2nd Wife, Elizabeth’s sister, Orpha Ann. Together they had 1 child, Mary Elizabeth Taylor. John and his family lived on the Van Tuyl Farm in Lemon Twp. and he continued farming there until his death in 1899.
