PRINCESS ANNE MAN DROWNS AT MOREHEAD CITY

Coast Guard Continues Search for Body of Frank W. Land

Morehead City, N.C. June 11 (Special) -- Coast Guardsmen were searching tonight for the body of a 20 year old boatswain's mate from Princess Anne, Va., who drowned here late yesterday.
Boatswain's Mate Third Class Frank W. Land, USCG, and five shipmates from the Coast Guard cutter Conifer were swimming in the local yacht basin channel when Land lost his life.
Regarded as an excellent swimmer, he dived off a boat and came up struggling. Shipmates said he sank from view before anyone could reach him. A current estimated at four knots was flowing at the time.
Lt(jg) A.H. Peterson, USCG skipper of the Portsmouth, Va. based cutter, said every effort was being made to recover Land's body. Coast Guardsmen were dragging over the entire area, he indicated.
The petty officer is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Land, of Princess Anne; two brothers, Floyd E. of Princess Anne and Elliott L. of Greenville, N.C., and a sister, Mrs. Marion Mosley, also of Princess Anne.
