Mr. Thomas Maddox died near Midway church, in this county, four miles northeast of the city on last Thursday night. Mr. Maddox was one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of this county, being in the 84th year of his age at the time of his death. He was a native of Laurens county, but came to this county many years ago, and although he had never connected himself with any church he led such an upright and blameless life as to comand the confidence and esteem of all his neighbors. He was in every sense of the word an honest man. He was the father of 11 children, and leaves behind him an aged wife and numerous descendants to whom he leaves the legacy of an untarnished name. He was buried at Midway on Friday afternoon in the presence of a large assemblage of his old friends and neighbors, Rev. D. E. Frierson, D.D., conducting the funeral services.
