He enlisted in the Confederate Army at Anderson, SC in July 1862. He was a private in Co. G, 22nd S.C. Infantry. He was paroled at Appomattox on April 10, 1865.

He was last seen on the 1880 census of DeKalb County, AL. He did have a child born in January 1890 but he was not listed on the 1900 census. His three youngest children were living with their brother Thomas and his wife. So it appears that Marvin died between Jan. 1890 and June 1900, the date of the census.
