James W. Curry was born in Dubois County, IN, Dec. 25. 1837. He served in the Civil War three years, discharged as a Cpl. from the Indiana Infantry, 18th Regiment, Company E. He married Mary E. "Mollie" Cooper in 1864 in Dubois Co. IN. He came to Missouri in 1881 and had a farm six miles southeast of Marceline. He father, Rev. William Clark Curry and mother Cyrena Curry had moved to the area a few years before. W.C. was a United Brethren Church minister and farmer. They are buried in Elmwood Cemetery north of Marceline. They had 12 children, five died in infancy. Oscar died as a youth. Others were Carl E.Curry, Mary, John W., Felix W, Myrtle, and Hattie.
