William Alonzo Ferguson is the son of Noah Ferguson (b. about 1819, d. about 1890) and Mary Catherine Strain (b. 1821, d. between 1912 & 1916). He married Rebecca J. Malone (1853-1914) on 5 January 1871 in Gordon County, Georgia. Together they had two known children:
1. Lena Laurens Ferguson (b. 1874)
2. Norman Elmo Ferguson, Sr. (b. 1878)

W. A. Ferguson, aged 73, pioneer resident and railroad man of this city died at 5:30 yesterday morning at the home of his son, N. E. Ferguson, 3206 Avenue L, East Lake. Mr. Ferguson had been a resident of Chattanooga for over thirty two years and for more than forty years had been connected with the Southern railroad system. He was a member of the Baptist church and of the International Association of Machinists. Mr. Ferguson is survived by his son, N. E. Ferguson, and one daughter, Mrs. George Freeman.
Funeral services will be held from the residence this afternoon at 2:30, the Rev. W. E. Davis, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills cemetery. The following will act as pallbearers: James C. Rogers, Z. A. McCrary, George Finch, D. C. Matheny, C. B. Morehouse and W. R. Morris.
