OBIT:
Died, at the family home on West Pine Street, this city, at 9 o'clock Thursday morning, Mrs. Charles Loney, Sr., after but a short illness with pleuro-pneumonia. The deceased was 68 years of ago and one of the pioneer women of the valley.
Mrs. Loney, with her husband and family, came to the Walla Valley from the County of Wellington, Ontario, Canada, in the early day, and settled in Walla Walla County. An active, energetic woman of sterling qualities, Mrs. Loney made friends wherever she resided. Besides being of a charitable disposition, looking to the stranger without her gates, Mrs. Loney was a true helpmate to the bereaved husband. Through her able management of the home greater success attended farm operations and several years ago the farm was rented, a competency having been secured, and Mr. and Mrs. Loney moved to the city to spend the balance of their days, surrounded by greater comforts than could be had on the farm.
This good woman bore her husband thirteen children, ten of whom survive. The children who survive are Samuel K. Loney, Mrs. H. H. [Margaret] McLean, Mrs. Henry [Mary] Lee, W. D. Loney, John Loney, Mrs. W. D. [Katherine] Paul, Charles Loney, Jr., Mrs. John [Ida] Baxter, all of Walla Walla County, and Mrs. Robert [Adelaide] Potts, Sprague, and Mrs. R. L. [Edith] Kerrick, Seattle. The husband, Charles Loney, also survives.
The funeral will take place from the family home at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. Holman B. Turner, of the First Baptist Church, officiating.
