Charles Loney, an old settler of this valley, died Sunday morning [February 6, 1910] at about 10 a.m. at his home, 708 North Eleventh Street. Mr. Loney had been in ill health for the past few years, suffering the usual ailments of old age, he being 85 years old. A prominent farmer and stock raiser, as well as a well-liked and respected citizen of the valley. Mr. Loney leaves many friends in this section.

Mr. Loney was born in Ireland, September 23, 1825 and moved to Canada with his parents in 1842. His parents settled near Toronto and here Mr. Loney grew to manhood. He was united in marriage there. In 1882 he and his family moved to the Walla Walla Valley where he engaged in farming. Mr. Loney enjoyed quite a reputation as a tiller of the soil and was actively engaged in this work until about seven years ago when he retired upon the death of his wife. Since then he has lived in this city.

Six daughters and four sons survived besides two brothers in Grass Valley, Cal., and one brother in Canada. The surviving children are Mrs. [Margaret] H. H. McLean, Samuel Loney, Mrs.[Mary] J. E. Lee, W. D. Loney, and John Loney, Charles Loney, Mrs. [Edith] W. L. Kerrick, Mrs. [Katherine] W. D. Paul and Mrs. [Ida] J. A. Baxter of Walla Walla and Mrs. [Adelaide] Robert Potts of Sprague, Wash.

Funeral services will be held at the Loney home, 708 North Eleventh Street, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and are to be in charge of Rev. LeCornu. Interment will be in the family plot in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
