Marian was the youngest child of George Henry Kittell and Kate Fisher Kittell. She grew up in McPherson and Newton, Kansas and Canyon City Colorado. Her career was as a writer. She wrote for the Capper Publications, for several years in Topeka and then transferring to take a desk as women's editor on the Ohio Farmer in Cleveland, Ohio. Later she moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico where she continued as a writer but in a 1957 article in the Albuquerque Journal she was mentioned as Colfax County welfare director doing surplus food distributions. She married only briefly and divorced. She is buried in the Kittell family plot in her hometown of McPherson, Kansas.
