Edward S. Cook, 80, lifelong resident of Pella and businessman here for over fifty years, passed away early Thursday morning at Community hospital. He is survived by his wife, Henrietta, two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Dorothy) Herald of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Earl (Carol) Pohlmann of Pella, son Jean W. Cook of Chicago, and one grandchild, Julie Pohlmann. For over fifty years Mr. Cook was affiliated with the Pella National Bank in various capacities, and at the time of his death he was a member of the Board of Directors. During these years he also associated himself with his father, William W. Cook in the insurance business, a venture in which he was active until retirement in 1953. The agency then was taken over by his son-in-law, Earl Pohlmann. He was a member of the Second Reformed church here and devoted much interest to the denomination's Central College.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the chapel of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home with Rev. Harmon Wierengar officiating. Casket bearers were John Blommers, Del S. DeHaan, J. Gilbert Boat, Clarence Vander Linden, Charles F. Dykstra and Dr. H. O. Wormhoudt. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery. -Pella Chronicle, January 16, 1962
