STAUNTON - Thelma Mary Hawpe, 83, of King's Daughter's Nursing Home, died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) at King's Daughters' Nursing Home, Staunton.
She was born Dec. 3, 1915, at Manchester, England, a daughter of George Purvis and Kate (Hall) Sanders.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, a former member of the Waynesboro Womans Club, a former volunteer of the Waynesboro Visitors Center and had been a real estate agent at Waynesboro for a number of years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kemper Hawpe, on Oct. 22, 1976 a daughter, Janet (Hawpe) Glendye and a brother, Reginald Sanders.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Hawpe) Coffey a sister, Pauline Lane of North Wales, Great Britian four grandchildren, Darren Kemper Coffey and Kevin Burks Coffey, Todd Bonner Glendye and Kristen Sanders Glendye and a great-granddaughter, Leah Kemper Coffey.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Waynesboro, by the Revs. William Wilson and Steven Scoggin. The family will receive friends at the church following the service and at the home of Mrs. Hawpe-Coffey at any time.
