WAYNESBORO -- Charles Kemper Hawpe, 62, of 1800 Mt. Vernon Ave. died Friday evening (Oct. 22, 1976) in University of Virginia Hospital.
He was born Nov. 24, 1913, in Greenville, son of William and Margaret (Miller) Hawpe. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Waynesboro Elks Lodge 2270, American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars. He was a former DuPont employee.
He is survived by his widow, Thelma M. Hawpe; two daughters, Mrs. Tommy Glendye of Bridgewater and Mrs. Glenn Coffey of Waynesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Edward McClure of Greenville and Mrs. Dudley Brooks of Staunton; two brothers, W. Erskine of Roanoke and Thomas G. Hawpe of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted in McDow Funeral Home 2 p.m. Monday by the Revs. J. Whitner Kennedy and G.P. Whiteley. A private burial will be held at Augusta Memorial Park following the service.
Pallbearers will be Robert Rhodes, Rufus McCormick, Earl Zimmerman, Vinton Cook, Harold Richardson and Watt Jeter.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 8 o'clock.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Mental Health Association or Waynesboro First Aid Crew.
